Services

The Storrar Practice is here for all your pets’ needs, so no matter what the problem, please do not hesitate to give us a call.

Consultations

If your pet needs to see a vet, please call our surgery and one of our friendly receptionists will make an appointment for you. All our consultations are by appointment only except in a genuine emergency. If you have more than one pet that needs to be seen, please inform the receptionist at the time of booking so that they can schedule an adequate amount of time for you.

In most cases treatment can be given at the time of the consultation. If tests or a procedure is needed, the vet will be able to discuss this with you along with the possible costs.

Vaccinations and Health Checks

Vaccinations play an extremely important part in keeping your pets healthy. Vaccinations stimulate your pet’s immune system producing antibodies, so that if they come into contact with certain diseases, they have the best possible chance of fighting the disease and/or reducing the severity of the symptoms.

Puppies can start their vaccinations from 6 weeks of age against Distemper, Heptatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza, Leptospirosis and Kennel Cough.

Kittens can start their vaccinations from 8 weeks of age against Cat Flu, Feline Enteritis (Panleucopaenia) and Feline Leukaemia.

Rabbits can be vaccinated from 5 weeks of age against Myxomatosis and Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease (RHD1 and RHD2).

Yearly Booster Vaccinations and Health Checks are also very important to maintain your pet’s protection from these diseases and for us to examine your pet to ensure they are healthy.

Parasite Protection

Parasites such as fleas, worms, ticks and mites can be extremely irritating and often harmful to your pets. They can also spread nasty diseases and can affect humans too. Parasites can be easily prevented by using recommended products on a regular basis. The Storrar Practice stock a variety of different parasite products (tablets, spot-ons and sprays). For advice on the best parasite protection for your pet, please contact our team.

Microchipping

Microchipping is the best way to permanently identify your pet. It is a legal requirement in the UK for all dogs over the age of 8 weeks. This is soon to be the case for cats too. Pet microchipping is a quick and simple procedure that can vastly improve your chances of being reunited with your beloved pet should they go missing.

Neutering

As well as being key in helping to control the growing population of unwanted pets by preventing pregnancies, pet neutering comes with many health and behavioural benefits. Neutering is performed under general anaesthesia and your pets will be home on the same day as the procedure. Please contact us to discuss the best time to neuter your pet and for current prices.

Surgical Operations

The Storrar Practice has a dedicated Operating Theatre allowing us to perform surgical procedures if necessary for your pet. Alongside neutering we also perform lump removals, wound reconstructions, intestinal foreign body removals, caesarean sections and some orthopaedic procedures (including fracture repairs, cruciate ligament surgery and patella luxation surgery). Sometimes we may feel it appropriate for your pet’s surgery to be performed by a specialist and will recommend referral to a specialist hospital. In all cases we aim to give an accurate estimate of the likely costs and discuss the nature of the operation along with potential complications.

Digital X-ray

We have a modern digital X-ray machine allowing us to X-ray your pets where necessary in a safe controlled environment to help our vets diagnose certain conditions.

Dental Care

Just like ourselves, our pets require regular dental care and checks. Dental disease is very common and can cause your pet to be in pain and stop them from eating. We can give you advice on looking after your pets teeth and gums and can perform dental procedures such as descaling, polishing and tooth extractions if necessary under general anaesthesia.

Behavioural Support

Our aim at The Storrar Practice is to improve the welfare of your pet. We like to give advice on how to prevent behavioural problems, helping you build a strong relationship with your pet from the start. If you feel your pet is developing a problem with their behaviour please contact us for help and support. Sometimes we may recommend referral to a qualified behaviour specialist.

Home Visits

End of Life Care

As pet owners ourselves, we know how upsetting it can be when the time comes to say goodbye. Our caring and compassionate team are here to help you and your pet through this difficult and emotional time. Do not hesitate to contact us to discuss your pet’s individual requirements and we will ensure that saying goodbye is peaceful, respectful and tailored to your needs. We are able to offer this at both the practice or the comfort of your pet’s home (where possible). We also offer a pet cremation service including individual cremation and return of ashes.

Dietary Advice

Your pet's diet has a huge impact on their health and happiness. The wrong diet can lead to obesity and life-long health issues, so it's important to feed them the right food to keep them at a healthy weight and make sure they get all the nutrients they need. Our team will be able to help you choose the most suitable food to keep your pet in the best condition.
